Kekova is a small, rocky island off the coasts of Kaleköy (Simena) and Üçağız near the Demre district of Antalya. Kekova is reached by boat. Kekova, to the north of which are the sunken ruins of the ancient city Dolkisthe, has been a protected site since 1990.
Kekova, which is a paradise on earth where nature and history are intertwined and the turquoise sea is surrounded by thousands of bays, hosts millions of tourists every year in its unmatched beaches and fishing villages. The island, which is one of the most popular stops for blue cruise boats and yachts, is also the cleanest part of the Mediterranean. The best place to swim in Kekova, which is a protected site where there is no urbanisation, is the Tersane Bay. This place also has crystal clear waters abundant with archaeological features and a Byzantine era basilica.
Where is Kekova and How to Go There?
Kekova is situated 170 km from Antalya, 150 km from Demre, 35 km from Kaş, and 190 km from Dalaman. You can reach Kekova from Antalya to Demre by road, and by boat from Kaş and Üçağız. The road from Antalya to Kekova takes roughly 3 hours.
Alternatively you may reach Kekova through Fethiye.
Those who prefer to go by air can use either the Antalya Airport or the Dalaman Airport. If you prefer to take the bus, the nearest station to Kekova is in Kaş. However, there are no shuttles from the Kaş station to Kekova, cabs are the only transport available.
Reaching Kekova from Kaş
You can reach Kekova from the Kaş Harbour by a 3-3.5 hour boat trip. You may also drive to Kekova and take a boat to the island from the Üçağız Pier for 30 minutes.
Reaching Kekova from Antalya
If you consider going to Kekova through Antalya, there are weekly flights every day to the Antalya Airport from Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara. If you would like to rent a car from the airport, you need to drive directly to Demre, and take a left at the Kekova sign 2 km after passing the Demre industrial site. After turning left you need to drive for 15 km to the shore, to the Üçağız Village which is the starting point of Kekova.
By road, there are buses to Antalya from nearly every city in Turkey. The Antalya-Kekova bus leaves from the Antalya bus station at 14:30 every day. In addition, you can find a bus every hour from Antalya to Demre, and take the 17:30 shuttle from Demre to Kekova.
Reaching Kekova from Muğla
To go to Kekova through Muğla, you need to continue on to Kaş by the Fethiye-Kaş road after reaching Fethiye. While driving from Kaş to Demre you need to turn right at the crossing at the 15th km, then continue straight for 19 km until you reach the shore.
